Frequently Asked Questions
Questions? We have answers.
Have questions about dangerous goods disposal? Find answers here about our services, pricing, safety procedures, and what we collect in Melbourne.
How do I book a collection?
For residential customers, the easiest way is to use our online booking form. For businesses, we recommend calling us or filling out our commercial quote request form so we can tailor a solution to your specific needs.
What areas of Melbourne do you service?
We service the entire Melbourne metropolitan area and surrounding suburbs. Contact us with your postcode to confirm service availability in your location.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the type and quantity of materials being collected. We provide transparent, upfront estimates for all jobs. Residential pickups have standard pricing for common items, while commercial services are quoted based on volume and frequency.
What's the difference between a residential and commercial service?
Our residential service is designed for one-off household clean-ups of common hazardous items. Our commercial service is for businesses and offers scheduled collections, waste auditing, and full compliance documentation for ongoing waste streams.
Do you have a drop-off location?
We are a mobile collection service only. This approach provides maximum convenience for our clients and ensures that dangerous goods are always handled and transported by our trained professionals.
Why can't I just take these items to the tip?
Many dangerous goods, especially pressurised cylinders and liquid chemicals, are banned from general landfill. They require specialised treatment at licensed facilities to prevent fires, explosions, and environmental contamination.
Are you a licensed company?
Yes. Transnitro is a fully licensed Dangerous Goods business. We operate in strict compliance with all regulations set by EPA Victoria and WorkSafe Victoria, and our team is fully trained and insured.
Do I need to be home or on-site for the collection?
For most residential collections, you do not need to be home, provided the items are left in a safe and accessible location. For commercial collections, we typically require a site contact to be present to sign off on the collection.
How do I prepare items for collection?
Please ensure items are in a stable condition and lids on paint. For gas cylinders, place them upright in a well-ventilated area. Do not attempt to conceal or mix different chemicals. If you have a leaking container, please let us know when booking so we can advise on the safest procedure.
